Sound environment

Monique Jean

Electroacoustician and sound artist Monique Jean is particularly interested in creating organic ensembles torn between abstraction and matter, stasis and motion, body and space, sound representation and listening. Aside from her acousmatic pieces in stereo or in multichannel , she explores mixed music and improvisation with Theresa Transistor, a group of electroacoustic composers/improvisers (winner of the 9th Opus prizes, in the category “Concert of the year – actuelle and electroacoustic musics” in Québec, Canada.). Her work is also regularly associated with dance, documentary, and sound installation (Connection points or rotary infidelities).

Finalist at Ciber@art , Musica Nova and Bourges (France, 2002), her works have been played and broadcasted on several occasions during numerous national and international concerts and festivals. Her critically acclaimed CD L’Adieu au S.O.S. (Empreintes Digitales label) was nominated for an Opus Award in 2003.

She has collaborated with Goem, Martin Tétreault, David Kristian and recently, her work with Tomas Phillips “ligne”, was released on ATAK in Japan.
